Clinton County Reads 2019 Print
Active ImageTara Westover was not allowed to attend school until she was 17 years old because her father believed it to be a governmental method of brainwashing citizens.

Instead, Westover spent her days working in her father's junk yard or distilling herbs for her mother.

The 2019 Clinton County Reads selection, Educated: A Memoir, is Westover's story of growing up off the grid in a Mormon survivalist family in Idaho and how she went on to attend college and earn a doctorate in history from Cambridge University.

We invite everyone to read the book and come together to participate in this year's event to better understand the power of education.

The library currently has multiple copies of the book available for checkout.

Please join us for the kickoff March 11 at Wilmington Public Library hosted by Joyce Kelly. Various programs and discussions will be held throughout the county through April 11.

Clinton County Reads will wrap up with a dinner at the General Denver at 6 p.m., Thursday, April 11. The featured speaker is Kerri Shaw, who is the field director for the Ohio University social work program. The title of his talk is Every Book in Its Place, From Appalachia to Paraguay.
